Vivendi Will Sell All Shares In Ubisoft

report this ad After years of progress, the French conglomerate Vivendi has reportedly retired its efforts to commit a ‘hostile takeover’ of Ubisoft. Ubisoft can now breathe a sigh of relief knowing that its defenses against the major shareholder have succeeded and are no longer needed. Three years ago Ubisoft stated that one of its shareholders, Vivendi, was attempting a ‘hostile takeover’. By purchasing a large portion of Ubisoft’s stocks, Vivendi sought to become a majority shareholder. Quickly, Ubisoft began defending its company by seeking long-term investors who wouldn’t resell their shares to Vivendi. In 2016, Vivendi had acquired over ... Read more

Musical puzzle game Resynth is out now

You know what Sokoban puzzles are? They’re the ones where you have to push boxes around on a grid until they’re in the right positions, normally in the corners of an oddly shaped warehouse. And then, if you’re me, you realize you’ve accidentally squeezed one of those boxes into a corner and because you can only push and not pull there’s no way to get it out and you quit. Resynth is a Sokoban-style puzzle game from two indie designers who previously worked on the paint-splatting platformer de Blob, which had an excellent jazz/funk soundtrack. Music’s important to Resynth too. ... Read more

Dark Souls 3’s Cut Environment Effects Look Amazing

Data digger Lance McDonald has worked through the game files in the original alpha for Dark Souls III and has discovered some radical environmental changes that were implemented then cut from the game. The key to changing environment effects in the game has to do with what is labelled in the game files as “ceremonies.” These ceremonies are game states that have different skyboxes and environmental lighting, and as McDonald points out, some of these are still present in the game. For example, the visual difference between the Cemetery of Ash area and the Untended Graves area that is found ... Read more

‘NBA 2K19’ and other sports games have gone overboard with ads — and it’s ruining the fun

“If it’s in the game, it’s in the game.” For more than two decades, video game studio EA Sports seared this slogan, which plays in the opening credits of nearly every one of its games, into the hearts and mind of millions of fans. With each new season it seems more true; sports games reflect everything fans expect from their favorite sports, no matter how small the detail. Unfortunately, that also includes advertisements. Sports games have adopted the same penchant for aggressive advertising as their real-world counterparts. As the games have grown more complex, so have the ads. Here’s how ... Read more

‘Overwatch’ Art Director Reveals Bastion Used To Fly

By Tyler Fischer – September 29, 2018 (Photo: Blizzard) According to Overwatch’s Assistant Art Director, Arnold Tsang, Bastion once was able to fly. That’s right, Overwatch’s loveable turret originally had the magical power of flight. Speaking to Gamerant, Tsang revealed that Blizzard originally had a much different design for Bastion. “Bastion used to be able to fly – we tried a lot of different things for his ultimate,” said Tsang. Tsang seems to imply that perhaps Bastion only could fly when he used his ultimate. I like to believe that he had hidden wings that only appeared when he busted ... Read more
