‘Overwatch’: Fan Creates Amazing Widowmaker Fight Animation

By Liana ‘LiLi’ Ruppert – September 29, 2018 Overwatch’s Widowmaker is anything but a hero in Blizzard’s FPS. The Sniper is cold, calculating, and ruthless in her kills. As a character in the game, she requires skill, and her tragic backstory shows that she is a team asset worth learning about. The assassin is known for her aloofness towards her fellow Black Watch companions, but this fan-created short film shows her off in an entirely different light – baguette included. The video above shows off a pretty typical match for a Widowmaker main. She’s a sniper, which means it’s alright ... Read more

Steam restricts users in China from accessing “adult-only content”

The newly added “Adult Only Sexual Content” filter is not available in China. Online game distribution platform Steam has reportedly restricted all accounts in China from accessing “adult-only content,” according to a post published on Solidot (in Chinese), a CNET owned tech blog. Earlier this month, Valve, the developer of Steam, added a new filter in “Store Preferences” that allows users to show or hide games with adult-only explicit content. Prior to adding the new filter, Steam allowed its users to filter out games featuring mature content, frequent violence or gory content, and nudity or sexual content. However, Chinese users have ... There’s a full text adventure game hiding in Google.com’s source code

There’s a text adventure game hiding in the source code of Google Chrome. It’s not clear how long the game’s been sat there, waiting to be discovered, but confirmation of the game popped up on Reddit a few days ago courtesy of u/attempt_number_1. To get involved, open Google Chrome, and search “text adventure” (ensuring you’re on google.com and not google.co.uk etc.) Hit Ctrl+Shift+I—or CMD+option+I on Mac—and “Would you like to play a game? (yes/no)” will be revealed on the console. Image credit: John Reetun The game requires you to locate the other missing letters of the Google logo by way ... Read more

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Launch Trailer Forges You Into A Spartan Warrior

Days away from the release of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Ubisoft has released the official launch trailer for the action RPG. For previous trailers, Ubisoft either created two variations to highlight the game’s two protagonists–like the Gamescom cinematic trailer–or included both characters in one video. Not this time, though. For the launch trailer, Ubisoft mostly focused on Alexios and his growth from a young child into a legendary Spartan warrior. The trailer flashes through the possible solutions that you’ll be able to use to resolve the conflicts you’ll face in Odyssey, such as using an arrow storm against approaching guards or ... Fallout 76’s New Beta Trailer Parties Like It’s 1776

Fallout 76 is getting ready to launch its beta, and it released a trailer of the game’s intro cinematic to mark the occasion. The tongue-in-cheek tone celebrates America and promises to protect democracy, all with an odd, discomfiting tone. It also finally names a release date for the beta launch: October 23 on Xbox One, with PlayStation 4 and PC to follow a week later. The satirical nature is part of Fallout’s brand, offering a take on Cold War jingoism that accompanied historical events like the Cuban missile crisis. The trailer itself is given a dark tone by what we ... Read more

The Oculus Quest isn’t as powerful as the Rift, but it’s probably the future

High-end PC headsets are not how VR gets big. That much is clear by now, more than two years after the launch of the Oculus Rift and the HTC Vive. Neither headset has brought VR to the masses. The PC is expensive, the gear’s expensive, and that damn cable makes it hard to fully feel the freedom we want in virtual reality. The Quest, which Oculus announced at its VR conference on Wednesday, has none of those problems. It’s a $400 headset, including a pair of Touch controllers, that offers head tracking closer to the Oculus Rift than cheap mobile ... Read more

Destiny 2 Makes It Much Easier To Get A Seed Of Light And Third Forsaken Subclass

In many ways, Destiny 2‘s Forsaken DLC feels like it was designed to cater to more hardcore, dedicated players than the base game. That extends to the acquisition of the new subclass branches, of which each class received three. The first is quite easy, the second requires access to a late-game area, and the third was previously reserved for those brave enough to dive into the Raid. Right now, however, one of the weekly bounties makes it much easier to get your hands on the Seed of Light item required to unlock one of these trees. Among the bounties you ... Read more

Destiny 2 Forsaken’s Spider Bounty — Wanted: Gravetide Summoner

Destiny 2‘s latest weekly reset has brought with it yet another set of activities to take part in, and a new round of bounties from Spider. If you’ve been playing since the launch of Forsaken, you likely know what to expect, and the highlight as always when it comes to Spider is the bounty that rewards you with Powerful gear. For this week, it’s Wanted: Gravetide Summoner. Here’s where to go and how to complete the mission. Unlike the majority of Spider’s bounties, there’s little confusion about where to go with the one that rewards Powerful gear. You’ll receive an ... Read more

Cyberpunk’s Night City Is Based On A Screwed-Up SimCity

Before you could jump online and generate resources for your pen-and-paper RPG at the press of a button, you had to make do with what you had. For Cyberpunk 2020 creator Mike Pondsmith, he decided SimCity was the right tool to help him visualise the RPG’s infamous Night City. And it worked — all he had to do was play the game as poorly as possible. Pondsmith revealed this neat titbit to VG247’s Matt Martin during PAX West: “I did it on the Apple II and I said ‘how badly can I screw this thing up?’” he said … “Night City evolved because I wanted ... But both companies are driving — and benefiting from — favorable industry trends like esports and the shift toward a subscription-based payment model for games. Those similarities have kept their stocks roughly tracking each other lately, yet Activision has pulled far ahead in recent weeks. Let’s take a look at why investors are betting that the gaming leader will have a better 2018 holiday season than its biggest peer. Image ... Read more

Here’s 24 Minutes From Thronebreaker, The Witcher-Gwent RPG

What exactly does Gwent look like when you recast it for a singleplayer RPG? Well, here’s the first 24 minutes of Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales. Thronebreaker uses an updated version of Gwent to resolve combat, but in between battles the player has an army, money and resources (gold, wood) to manage.
