Get ready, the global internet could be about to crash

Internet users around the world could start experiencing connection failures over the next two days as some maintenance is carried out. Well, that’s one theory at least. Basically, the main domain servers and related infrastructure will be temporarily powered down by the Internet Corporation of Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) over the next 48 hours. The reason is that they need to change the cryptographic key that protects the Domain Name System (DNS) – which is what translates a domain name, such as metro.co.uk into an IP address so a computer can read it. DNS is the ‘address book’ of ... Read more

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey lets you kill someone’s mum and shag their dad to complete a sidequest

By Kirk McKeand, Friday, 12 October 2018 08:51 GMT Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is the most fun I’ve had with the series since Black Flag. Origins was a brilliant game, but a lot of the sidequests felt like filler and you were always following a predetermined outcome. With Odyssey – which adds full choice and consequence, RPG-style – your journey feels much more personal. Some of the quests are still a bit duff and occasionally the writing fails to remind you why the hell you’re even doing certain things, but sometimes it all comes together and creates something glorious. Take this ... Read more

Emote peeking is already a thing in Black Ops 4 Blackout

By Sherif Saed, Friday, 12 October 2018 10:58 GMT Call of Duty: Black Ops 4’s Blackout mode has been available for less than a day, and players have already discovered a potentially game-breaking exploit. The launch version of Blackout includes several enhancements and new features not found in the beta. One of these is the ability to use emotes, spray art on walls, and shout some basic voice commands. They’re mostly pretty nice, harmless additions, until players discovered this exploit. The premise is simple: because triggering an emote pulls the camera out to third-person, it allows you to look behind ... Read more

Fortnite has released one of its coolest skins yet ahead of Halloween

The doctor is in…The new Grim Medicine Gear is available now! pic.twitter.com/On4QgBBro4October 12, 2018 Alongside a Quad Launcher, its Disco Domination LTM, Skull Squad gear and an ATV looks equal parts cute and dangerous, Fortnite has rolled out plague doctor skins.  Pathologic is perhaps the best videogame interpretation of the trade, but I’m all in for Fortnite’s Halloween-inspired slant. Contained within the Grim Medicine Gear pack, expect: Plague Epic Outfit—1,500 V-Bucks. Scourge Epic Outfit—1,500 V-Bucks. Harold’s Wand Rare Pickaxe—800 V-Bucks. Lamplight Rare Glider—800 V-Bucks. I think plague doctors are cool, therefore I think this is cool. Imagine a modern day ... Read more

Destiny 2 Double and Triple Valor Days Coming Next Week

report this adNext week will be a good time to play the Crucible in Destiny 2 with double and triple Valor days coming throughout the week. This will give players an opportunity to greatly shorten any grind that they may be on for Valor resets or quests that involve reaching a certain tier or number of resets for completion. Next week also happens to be Year 2’s second Iron Banner, in which players also earn Valor points, so there will be plenty going on in the Crucible to keep players busy. The week is split into double and triple Valor ... Read more

Ubisoft mocks EA’s Battlefront II debacle in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey – Ubisoft cast the first stone One of the missions in the new Assassin’s Creed is having fun at EA’s expense, with its quote about ‘pride and accomplishment’. Back during the launch of the PlayStation 3 you couldn’t move for games managing to work the phrase ‘giant enemy crabs’ into their games, in gentle mockery of Sony’s infamously unsuccessful reveal event. What publishers and developers get up to at press events, or when talking to the public, can often end up being referenced in games, although Ubisoft really are being cheeky with this latest example. It’s a ... Read more

2018 League of Legends World Championship – KT Rolster rolls to 2-0 record at LoL Worlds groups

KT Rolster 1, MAD Team 0 KT Rolster reinvigorated the hopes of South Korean fans across the world when it smashed MAD Team during its second day of play at the 2018 League of Legends World Championship in Busan, South Korea. While the objective and kill numbers would suggest this game was a blowout, the most striking aspect was how close both teams were to one another throughout the first 15 minutes. KT Rolster’s dominance in the LCK was largely predicated on its blistering early game that fed into the best mid-game shotcalling in the world, but that dominance was ... Read more

Fortnite is Getting Another Vehicle, And This One Breaks Down Walls

Fortnite‘s Battle Royale mode is no stranger to vehicles being playable, from shopping trolleys to four person golf carts, the game has experimented with wheeled transport before, but the newest vehicle coming to the game sounds like it’s going to offer something a little different for players. The new vehicle, revealed by Fortnite‘s in-game daily news alerts, is called the QuadCrasher, and it seems a lot more offensively minded than past ways of getting around the map. The QuadCracher is a quad bike style vehicle which can apparently be charged up to either get some air or, more interestingly, smash ... Read more

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey 1.0.3 Update Patch Adjusts Usability, Fixes Game-Breaking Bugs

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey has received an update aimed at squashing some bugs and issuing minor (but unspecified) quality-of-life features. The 1.0.3 update is now available, and the patch notes are relatively vague. Among its features are “quality-of-life and usability improvement” and “various ‘game breaking’ issues that could happen in specific conditions.” It also says it improves performance and stability. The patch notes end with a note promising more info. “Stay tuned for additional information concerning the changes included in 1.0.3,” it says. GameSpot has contacted Ubisoft for more detail and will update if more information becomes available. Ubisoft is likely ... Read more
