Square Enix COO Mike Sherlock dies

Popular publishing veteran passes away unexpectedly

Square Enix America and Europe chief operating officer Mike Sherlock has died unexpectedly.

The veteran games publishing executive had been with the company since 2005, initially as senior vice president of marketing. He previously held roles at Acclaim (as president of international publishing) and Sega Europe (as VP of sales and marketing). He had worked as COO for Square Enix America and Europe since 2015.

“It is with tremendous sorrow that we announce the passing of our great friend and colleague, Mike Sherlock,” said Square Enix Europe and America CEO Phil Rogers.

“Mike was a principled and charismatic leader who led by example. He was extremely proud of the progress and success we have shared over the years. The entire Square Enix family mourns this tragic loss, and our deepest sympathies are with his family and loved ones.”

Square Enix’s executive team will assume Sherlock’s immediate responsibilities.
