Washington DC Signs First Female Overwatch League Coach

The Overwatch League has become one of the most competitive esports events in gaming, and teams are continually looking for the best coaches out there to get their teams to number one in the world. Recently, the Washington DC Expansion team has brought two new people on board their team, and they are former Meta Bellum coach, Molly “AVALLA” Kim, and analyst Mikael “mkL” Skjønhaug from Last Night’s Leftovers. As AVALLA mentions in the tweet below, she is the first female coach to make it to the Overwatch League.

AVALLA is not signed for no reason though; the first female Overwatch League coach has a very impressive resume to follow. AVALLA has coached teams from various Contenders regions, including OpTic Academy and Meta Bellum and she has a personal skill rating peak in the top 100 of players in the gaming mecca, South Korea. As AVALLA further states in her tweet, she gave up law school to be able to be an Overwatch League coach, so there is no denying that she will work hard to get good results from the team.

AVALLA is clearly set to bring personal player experience and coaching expertise, as the Washington DC team looks to create a roster that can compete with the existing franchises. Head coach Kim “WizardHyeong” Heyong-seok stated on the DC Overwatch League website that he is “happy to have AVALLA and mkL join the coaching staff” as they bring international experience and a great work ethic.” WizardHyeong is confident that “together, we’re well on our way to building the best coaching staff in the league.”

The Washington DC Expansion team does not currently have a full roster of players yet, but they have until December 1st to field the minimum 8 players required by the league. The Overwatch League for 2019 also looks to be promising, as it will include twenty teams from all over the world. We look forward to seeing how the league shapes up, as some have had doubts about the sustainability of the league, and how AVALLA and her team will fare in the league next year.

Overwatch is currently available for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
